Last but definitely not least, Yogi traveled to Venice, where he organized and ran his Venice Summer School in Evo-Devo (with philosopher James DiFrisco). You can find a brief summary of this event here.
Although not strictly part of our project, the Venice Summer School is an important venue for outreach towards biologists and philosopher of biology. This year's edition of the summer school, in particular, included a day on the topic of "Organism-level approaches to evolution," which also featured philosopher Denis Walsh who is an official collaborator of the project. Both Yogi and Denis presented their agential views on evolution, and discussed what such an agential perspective adds to existing approaches in evolutionary theory. You can get more details here, if you are interested.
James, Yogi, and their new co-organizer Nicole Repina, will also be applying for a symposium at the upcoming meeting of the European Society for Evolutionary Developmental Biology (EuroEvoDevo), which will take place in Helsinki in June 2024, where we plan to report the insights and discussions that took place during the summer school to a wider audience of evolutionary developmental biologists. Our general aim is to push for a more philosophically oriented and grounded theoretical biology for the study of evolution.
