Yogi wrote a new blog post this week about a recent Nature paper on assembly theory, which created quite an online stir, concluding that "assembly theory has lots of merit and potential, but this particular paper frames its argument in a way that is unfortunately and, frankly, more than just a bit misleading."
Assembly theory is important to our project because it deals with expanding evolving possibility spaces and their role in the generation of novelty in the universe. It provides a method to detect whether higher-level causal influences are at work in simple abstract rule-based worlds of recombining objects. We will be using some of the ideas presented, for our own theory of the adjacent possible.
You can read the blog post here. Enjoy the read!
